Atlantis Marine Power has been appointed the exclusive UK distributor for LOOKOUT, an advanced AI-powered situational awareness system that enhances human watchkeeping and safety at sea.
LOOKOUT combines artificial intelligence with 360-degree scanning, colour night vision, augmented reality displays, and docking assistance, acting as an “always alert digital lookout” that supports bridge teams in detecting hazards and maintaining awareness — even in darkness or poor visibility.
The technology arrives as the maritime industry increasingly recognises the value of AI as a partner to human decision-making. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) recently noted that “humans do not make good monitors,” highlighting how fatigue and distraction continue to contribute to preventable incidents.
Recent events such as the North Sea collision in March 2025 — when the container ship Solong and anchored tanker Stena Immaculate collided, resulting in one fatality and significant damage — have further underlined the importance of improved situational awareness. The MAIB’s interim report revealed that neither vessel had a dedicated lookout on the bridge at the time of impact.
